DEVELOPMENT OFFICER - Under general supervision of the Sr. Vice
President of Business Development, the Development Officer will
provide site selection assistance, governmental ombudsman
services, aid with training, and marketing of the Economic
Development Corporation of Kansas City’s redevelopment and
financing programs to Kansas City, Missouri businesses and
businesses seeking to relocate to the city. Development Officers
will work in assigned geographic areas to facilitate business
development, and develop specific plans and programs for business
development and expansion.Skills
Required
A. The position requires excellent
communication skills for both verbal and written presentations. A
knowledge of City and Missouri incentive programs, familiarity
with the Kansas City economy, Kansas City business associations,
real estate practices, and finance is emphasized. The Development
Officer will have responsibility for project management, and an
ability to train and manage EDC personnel is preferred.
B. Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts,
business, public administration, or economics is required. A
master’s degree or economic development experience is preferred.
Skill with spreadsheets and cost-benefit analysis a plus.
Job Duties
1. Initiate and make calls on Kansas City
industry to determine their needs for local, regional, or state
assistance.
2. Aid in the coordination of local
industry associations to improve the climate for growth in Kansas
City, Missouri.
3. Promote and coordinate the use of
business incentives to aid in business expansion and recruitment
in Kansas City, Missouri.
4. Generate reports in areas of economic
interest to the EDC, with emphasis on implementation strategies.
Coordinate the implementation of the reports’ recommendations.
5. Initiate and coordinate
cross-disciplinary teams of EDC staff, City staff, and area
business associations to improve industry competitiveness.
6. Work with Development Officers in
preparing incentive proposals and other work products, and assist
as necessary in developing strategies for specific and business
retention and attraction activities.
Salary of $35,000 per year with benefits.
Position requires Kansas City, Missouri residency or willingness
to relocate.
