NOTE: If you are already registered for the MEDC Economic Issues Summit (February 7-8, 2023) and wish to attend the MoCED Training Sessions below, you will still need to register for the sessions at the link below. If you wish to attend the MoCED training session ONLY, registration for the MEDC Economic Issues Summit is NOT required.
ALL 4 Training Sessions in One Day, No Cost, In-Person Training Only:
When: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2023
Where: Rose Room - DoubleTree by Hilton, 422 Monroe Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101
Overnight Accommodations: MEDC Group Rate at DoubleTree for Feb. 5, 6 & 7, 2023:
Refreshments will be provided during training session breaks. Lunch “on your own”
Note: You must register for each individual session, as needed, in order to receive credit.
Session 1: Assessing Your Community for Business Development
Date/Time: 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2023
In Session 1, the economic development professional will learn:
- Why data is helpful in telling their story or describing their community
- Missouri resources for data, what is available and where to locate it
- Federal resources for data, what is available and where to locate it
- Additional details and examples relevant to the Missouri Certified Economic Developer (MoCED) Exam Study Guide, and Resource Manual, pages 19-25
Session 2: Preparing & Promoting Your Product for Business Development
Date/Time: 10:30 a.m. to 12 Noon on Monday, February 6, 2023
In Session 2, the economic development professional will learn:
- Missouri’s Certified Site Program – Standards and Process
- The language, needs and benefits of utility providers (Utilities 101)
- Tips for presenting sites and buildings (LOIS, RFPs, Site Visits)
- Additional details and examples relevant to the Missouri Certified Economic Developer (MoCED) Exam Study Guide, and Resource Manual, pages 26-30
Session 3: Missouri Economic Development & Technical Assistance Programs
Date/Time: 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2023
In Session 3, the economic development professional will learn:
- Typical financing and incentive tools (loans, grants, TIF, tax relief, cost sharing)
- Basics of tax incentive (abatement, exemption, credits and TIF)
- Incentives and Technical Assistance programs – process, procedures and best practices
- Additional details and examples relevant to the Missouri Certified Economic Developer (MoCED) Exam Study Guide, and Resource Manual, pages 31-42
Session 4: Implementing Economic Development – the Practitioner and Partners
Date/Time: 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2023
In Session 4: the economic development professional will learn:
- Agencies, partners and opportunities for EDO sustainability and professional development
- State agencies, their roles and responsibilities
- Other public, private, nonprofit or governmental agencies that serve businesses and communities
- Additional details and examples relevant to the Missouri Certified Economic Developer (MoCED) Exam Study Guide, and Resource Manual, pages 42-52
YOU MAY TAKE THE MOCED EXAM, IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Completed an IEDC accredited Basic Course and,
- Current Member of MEDC and,
- 10 years or more professional economic development experience OR have participated in the four training sessions as follows:
- SESSION 1: Assessing Your Community for Business Development
- Session 1 courses were or will be held 10/20/21, 8/31/22, and 02/06/23
- SESSION 2: Preparing & Promoting Your Product for Business Development
- Session 2 courses were or will be held 10/20/21, 8/31/22, and 02/06/23
- SESSION 3: Missouri Economic Development & Technical Assistance Programs
- Session 3 courses were or will be held 6/14/22 and 02/06/23
- SESSION 4: Implementing Economic Development – the Practitioner and Partners
- Session 3 courses were or will be held 6/14/22, 10/26/22, and 02/06/23
- SESSION 1: Assessing Your Community for Business Development
MoCED Exam:
Cost: $295
Date/Time: 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2023

The proctored exam will be delivered on a laptop. The exam will consist of 150 multiple choice
questions. Accuracy above 85% is considered passing. Exams will be graded immediately. Participants will be confidentially notified by email regarding their results.
